Congenital malformations may present as meningitis caused by enteric o
rganisms, but this is extremely rare and occurs almost exclusively in
the paediatric population. We report an unusual case of a young man wi
th chronic constipation presenting with spontaneous Gram-negative meni
ngitis due to an underlying congenital spinal malformation known as th
e caudal regression syndrome.
