HIV Illness is accompanied by a psychological course determined by the
disease progression. The Life Course of HIV Illness has two phases wh
ich consist of eight basic Task-States and eight general themes which
traverse these task-states. The paper focuses on a detailed descriptio
n of phase one-Living with the Illness. The concepts are illustrated w
ith case material. The overall goal of this paper is to introduce the
broad notion of the Life Course of being in the HIV spectrum and its p
sychotherapeutic implications.
