The authors have investigated the basic theory of capillary electropho
resis and the influence of the main parameters. A strategy for the dev
elopment of separations has been proposed including a discussion of th
e problems and difficulties involved. The two application examples hav
e been illustrated kv a cationic and an anionic compound with their re
lated substances. Calculation formulae have been developed which permi
t an association between which migration time and pKa. This analytical
technique is of particular interest due to its different selectivity
compared to classical chromatographic techniques, and its high perform
ance.
