Abstract
The integration of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for a spherically sy mmetric distribution of collapsing charged matter, is accomplished. Co mparison with a neutral corresponding solution allows us to analyse th e effect of electric charge on the evolution of the sphere. The soluti on is matched across the boundary of the distribution to the exterior radiating Vaydia-Reissner-Nordstrom spacetime. It is shown that the pr esence of the electric charge delays the contraction of the sphere.
