Abstract
During low temperature hardening enhanced levels of glutathione (GSH) are generally observed in plant shoots and are often related to the de velopment of freezing tolerance. The present communication shows that there is no direct relation between an increased GSH content and freez ing tolerance of leaves, and little supporting evidence for the functi on of GSH as a protectant against freezing-induced injury.
