Abstract
Four pyrrolizidine alkaloids (intermedine, lycopsamine, 0(7)-acetylint ermedine, 0(7) -acetyllycopsamine) have been detected by DC- and GC-me thods in Onosma alborosea, O. alborosea x sanguinolenta and O. arenari a subsp. pennina. The four alkaloids are present in all the three taxa but in different amounts. The importance of the alkaloid pattern in t he Lithospermeae genera Onosma, Cerinthe, Lithospermum, Echium and Alk anna and its systemic relevance is discussed.
