Sm. Leshchev et al., USE OF CONCENTRATED-SOLUTIONS OF ZINC BROMIDE IN POLAR ORGANIC-SOLVENTS FOR EXTRACTION REMOVAL OF ALCOHOLS FROM HYDROCARBONS AND ALKYL-HALIDES, Journal of applied chemistry of the USSR, 65(8), 1992, pp. 1512-1516
The distribution of hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, and alcohols of diffe
rent molecular weight between n-octane and solutions of zinc bromide i
n water and lower alcohols was investigated. It was found that due to
a salting-out effect with high concentrations of zinc bromide, alcohol
s are satisfactorily extracted by the salt phase of the extraction sys
tems, while hydrocarbons and alkyl halides are extracted by the octane
phase. The increments of methylene and functional groups of the subst
ances in the logarithm of the distribution constant were calculated. T
he possibilities for using the actual extraction systems to remove alc
ohols from hydrocarbons and alkyl halides were evaluated with the incr
ements of the groups. A method was proposed for regeneration of the sp
ent salt solution and use of the alcohols contained in it.
