Gaseous xenon excitation and luminescence spectra have been measured w
ith 149 nm excitation employing the time-window technique. The energy
position of the predissociating vibrational levels of the B0u+ (P-3(1)
+ S-1(0)) state is found to be E = 66867 +/- 20 cm-1. Two spectral c
omponents in the first continuum luminescence, which display different
kinetics, are distinguished. Vibrational relaxation accompanied by an
intersystem mixing of B0u+ and Al(u)/0u- (P-3(2) + S-1(0)) excimer st
ates is discussed based on computer calculations.
