Abstract
A trap for radioactive atoms in the gas phase based on the light induc ed drift effect is presented. Na-24 atoms have been held in this trap for 30 min. The atom retention half-time is not less than 4 h. Possibl e applications of the trap in nuclear physics and chemical physics are discussed.
