Abstract
The hemolytic characteristics of six strains of the recently designate d aeromonad, Aeromonas trota, were studied using sheep, horse and rabb it erythrocytes. Several of the strains were not beta-hemolytic with s heep erythrocytes, but showed distinct hemolysis with rabbit erythrocy tes. Other occasional irregularities in comparison with A. trota ATCC 49657T (AH-2) were possibly caused by either nutrient, temperature or contact dependent factors. Strain 5274 was very atypical, but rabbit e rythrocyte hemolysin appeared to be aerolysin based on Western blot an d neutralization analyses using anti-aerolysin polyclonal serum.
