We consider the static and dynamic E epsilon and T * epsilon Jahn-Te
ller effects in order to analyze the absorption and emission spectra o
f octahedrally coordinated V4+ and absorption of tetrahedrally coordin
ated V4+. Using two-dimensional configuration coordinate diagrams of o
ctahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated V4+ we are able to explain t
he structure of the emission and absorption spectra and the fluorescen
ce kinetics measurements of V4+ doped GGG. Our calculations support th
e assumption that V4+ in tetrahedral sites is responsible for the addi
tional absorption band in the red region.
