Pj. Warren et al., THE FURLONG TOTAL HIP - SATISFACTORY INTERIM RESULTS OF A NEW CEMENTED ARTHROPLASTY, Journal of orthopaedic rheumatology, 6(1), 1993, pp. 33-36
The results of 148 total hip replacements using the Furlong cemented p
rosthesis are reported. Average follow up was 52 months, with a minimu
m of 36 months. Operations were performed by all grades of surgeon. De
fining survival as retention of the prosthesis the 5-year survivorship
was 97%. Significant heterotopic ossification occurred in 12 patients
, but this did not affect clinical outcome. It is concluded that the e
arly results of this inexpensive prosthesis are satisfactory and there
is no reason to reconsider its use.
