Abstract
In this work we are going to approach, within the field of intensive s urveillance of patients, what has been termed intelligent monitoring, its implications in nonclassical signal processing schemes, the role o f the expert systems from this perspective, and the current developmen t of a system for intelligent monitoring (SUTIL) aimed at the environm ent of coronary care units (CCUs).
