L. Littlefield et al., A MODEL FOR RESOLVING CONFLICT - SOME THEORETICAL, EMPIRICAL AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS, Australian psychologist, 28(2), 1993, pp. 80-85
This paper describes a model for resolving interpersonal, intergroup,
and international conflict and sets it into a theoretical and empirica
l context. The model aims for a cooperative process resulting in integ
rative solutions. The following stages, similar to social problem solv
ing approaches, are described: developing expectations for win-win sol
utions, identifying interests, brainstorming creative options, and com
bining options into win-win solutions. Also discussed are objective cr
iteria, alternatives to negotiated agreements, and methods for managin
g emotions. Research related to each stage and areas needing further w
ork are noted.
