Urinary metabolites of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate were studied using
fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry (FAB-MS). It was found that th
e beta-glucosides of mono(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate and mono(2
-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate gave radical molecular anions, M-., under
negative-ion FAB conditions. This was also shown to occur for the met
hyl ester of mono(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate beta-glucuronide, an artefac
t formed during the work-up procedure.
