Abstract
Meteorologic and oceanographic (metocean) data, obtained from instrume nted offshore oil platforms over the past three decades, are presented with summaries of major projects devoted to winds, surface gravity wa ves, wind and tidal current velocities, eddies, and internal waves. Ad vantages and limitations of working from platforms are described in te rms of practical aspects. In addition we briefly des be an inexpensive and reliable metocean measurement system which has recently evolved b ased on lessons learned.
