Abstract
We have studied the angular straggling of a particle beam scattered of f a clean metal surface under glancing angles of incidence. We show an alytically that inelastic resonant scattering of ''hot-electrons'' lyi ng energetically at or above the Fermi level is a possible mechanism t o explain the large angular straggling observed in low energy (a few k eV) grazing particle surface scattering, and we clarify what physical parameters are responsible for this mechanism.
