M. Kato et al., ANGULAR STRAGGLING IN GRAZING PARTICLE SURFACE SCATTERING ASSOCIATED WITH HOT-ELECTRON RESONANCE, Surface science, 294(3), 1993, pp. 429-437
We have studied the angular straggling of a particle beam scattered of
f a clean metal surface under glancing angles of incidence. We show an
alytically that inelastic resonant scattering of ''hot-electrons'' lyi
ng energetically at or above the Fermi level is a possible mechanism t
o explain the large angular straggling observed in low energy (a few k
eV) grazing particle surface scattering, and we clarify what physical
parameters are responsible for this mechanism.
