Abstract
We have studied the structure and properties of plastisols: suspension s of polyvinylchloride or methylmethacrylate copolymers in plasticizer s. The investigated properties are comparable with the Gibbs energies of mixing (DELTAG) for each polymer-plasticizer pair. The values of DE LTAG were obtained by calculation using Flory-Huggins and Hildebrand t heory (DELTAG(c)). The values of DELTAG(c) are compared with the exper imental values of the Gibbs energy of mixing DELTAG(e), determined by the method of static sorption of vapors of a solvent common to the pol ymer and the plasticizer. The calculated values can be used (to a firs t approximation) for matching plasticizers to the polymer. We obtain a series of new rules supporting the existence of a close connection be tween the thermodynamic affinity of the components and the properties of plastisols.
