The preparation of [N(CH3)(4)] C-60. 1.5thf and characterisation of it
s electronic properties, using susceptibility, EPR and C-13 MAS NMR me
asurements, is reported. X-Ray powder diffraction shows a simple hexag
onal stacking sequence of close-packed C-60 layers, with cations and s
olvent molecules located in the trigonal-prismatic sites. The electron
ic properties are consistent with narrow-band metallic behaviour at hi
gh temperature. A transition insusceptibility and EPR measurements is
seen between 200 and 230 K. A similar synthesis affords a C-60(2-) com
pound with the same simple hexagonal fulleride packing.
