The microbiological transformation of the diterpene ent-15beta,16beta-
epoxy-14alpha-hydroxykaurane into pha,15beta-dihydroxy-11alpha,16alpha
-epoxykaurane, pha,15beta-trihydroxy-11alpha,16alpha-epoxykaurane and
pha,15beta-trihydroxy-11alpha,16alpha-epoxykaurane has been carried ou
t using the fungus Gibberella fujikuroi. The incubation with this fung
us of sideroxol nt-7alpha,18-dihydroxy-15beta,16beta-epoxykaurane) gav
e as main products ,15beta,18-trihydroxy-11alpha,16alpha-epoxykaurane
and pha,13,18-trihydroxy-15alpha,16alpha-epoxykauranc. Some of these c
ompounds were identified as their acetate derivatives. The presence of
the 15alpha,16alpha-epoxy group in these two substrates inhibits tran
sformations involving oxidation at C-19 and favours the hydroxylation
at C-11(beta).
