A. Falsaperla et al., THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY OF A 30-300 KD PROTEIN-FRACTION VS GANGLIOSIDES IN THE TREATMENT OF DIABETIC NEUROPATHY - A PILOT-STUDY, Acta therapeutica, 19(3), 1993, pp. 275-281
The efficacy of treatment with a 30-300 KD protein fraction (4 mg/day
for 30 days) on the symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and on
electromyographic parameters has been studied in comparison to treatme
nt with gangliosides (50 mg/day for 30 days) in two groups each of 8 p
atients. Both treatments resulted in comparable improvement of neurolo
gical symptoms on clinical evaluation. However, electromyographic para
meters in patients treated with the 30-300 KD protein fraction showed
greater changes than those of patients who were given gangliosides. Th
ese results may encourage the clinical use of this protein fraction in
the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, but need to be confi
rmed in a large controlled study.
