Abstract
The non-linear optical (NLO) properties of two distorted cage clusters {WAg3S3 [S2P(OCH2 CH3)(2)]}(S)(Ph(3)P)(3) (1) and {MoAg3S3[S2P(OCH2CH 3)(2)]}(S)(Ph(3)P)(3) (2) were studied. Both NLO absorption and refrac tion were observed with 1 and 2, third-order effects were detected wit h alpha(2) = 6 x 10(-10) mW(-1) for 1 and alpha(2) = 8 x 10(-10) mW(-1 ) for 2. NLO refraction was also found on 1 and 2, with n(2) = 1 x 10( -16) m(2) W-1 for 2. The non-linearity of these two clusters was compa red with some related NLO materials.
