Na2Bi4IIIBiVAuO11 was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis under 3 kbars
oxygen pressure. Its structure was solved from single crystal X-ray d
iffraction data. The space group is P4/mbm with a = 12.193(1), c = 3.8
643(3), and Z = 2. The structure consists of square-planar AuO4 groups
and chains of comer sharing BiVO6 octahedra linked together by BiIIIO
7 polyhedra. The structural arrangement is topologically related to th
e tetragonal tungsten bronze structure. Na2Bi4IIIBiVAuO11 is electrica
lly insulating and forms transparent red crystals.
