The adsorption of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylsulfate, and a
cationic surfactant, dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride, onto kaolinite
was studied in the absence and presence of sodium hexametaphosphate a
t three different initial pH values. In general it was found that the
presence of the long chain phosphate decreased adsorption of the anion
ic surfactant but increased the adsorption of the cationic surfactant.
The importance of these items in a flotation system containing clays,
such as kaolinite, is discussed.
