An extended treatment for the analysis of the two-state positron trapp
ing model employing the Hamiltonian formulation is developed, the case
of more than one kind of defects being also valid. The formalism is a
pplied when the initial positron population decays into three states:
bulk, vacancy-type defects and another kind of defects as vacancy clus
ters, dislocations or jogs. This description is consistent with common
trapping-model results available but, in particular, Hamilton's forma
lism gives a basis for the extraction of physical information from the
non-stationary components of the solutions.
