Platinum metals are predestined for high-temperature application under
strongly oxidizing and corrosive conditions. The possibilities of the
powder-metallurgical production of semifinished goods and workpieces
are analyzed. The alloy powders were produced by REP and inert gas ato
mization. Semifinished goods can be produced by sintering or HIP proce
sses. A new sealing technique with quartz glass containers was tested
for the hot isostatic pressing process. The mechanical properties at h
igh temperatures of specimens produced by powder-metallurgical and fus
ion-metallurgical processes were compared. Significant differences wer
e not found. The specimens produced by powder-metallurgical processes
showed improved structural stability.
