Abstract
This study indicates that urban marital patterns in nine Nigerian citi es influence fertility. Fertility is also influenced by age at marriag e, region of residence, ethnicity and religion; education and employme nt lead to marriage delay and tend to conflict with childbearing by en hancing the status of women.
