Ectopic pancreatic tissue is found in most cases in the stomach, duode
num, and upper part of the jejunum, but rarely is localized in the gal
lbladder. We present a 14-year-old girl with episodes of abdominal pai
n for 2 years who underwent a cholecystectomy. The pathologic examinat
ion revealed aberrant pancreatic tissue. This is the 12th case describ
ed in the literature, and appears to be the first in a pediatric patie
nt. We recommend cholecystectomy in all patients with symptomatology a
nd the finding of an abnormal gallbladder on a cholecystogram, even Wi
thout the presence of stones.
