ON THE OCCURRENCE OF THE GENUS SPIROLINA- LAMARCK IN THE CRETACEOUS -SPIROLINA-CRETACEA NOV-SP (FORAMINIFERIDA-MILIOLINA) IN THE SANTONIANOF PROVENCE (SE FRANCE)

The micropaleontological study of the Santonian rudist platforms of so utheastern France allowed to define a new taxon : Spirolina cretacea n ov. sp. (Miliolina). This species has been found in some sections loca ted in Provence. The generic assignments of the Jurassic and Cretaceou s species previously described are doubtful ; the oocurrence of the ge nus Spirolina in the Santonian is interesting for the Upper Cretaceous biostratigraphy. The new species gives some paleoenvironmental data a nd characterises still deposits located in the inner parts of the rudi st platforms.
