Al. Buchman et al., CENTRAL VENOUS CATHETER INFECTION CAUSED BY MORAXELLA-OSLOENSIS IN A PATIENT RECEIVING HOME PARENTERAL-NUTRITION, Diagnostic microbiology and infectious disease, 17(2), 1993, pp. 163-166
We report the first case of a central venous catheter infection caused
by Moraxella osloensis, which was successfully treated without cathet
er removal, The isolation, identification, and pathogenesis of this sp
ecies are discussed. It is recommended that Moraxella isolates be iden
tified to species in order to determine the relative pathogenic and op
portunistic roles of the various Moraxella species. Our case also demo
nstrates that catheter sepsis caused by some Gram-negative organisms m
ay be amenable to systemic antibiotic therapy without the necessity of
catheter removal.
