An integrated imaging system is demonstrated with 32 x 32 channels in
an area of 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm. All optical components are implemented as
diffractive optical elements and monolithically integrated on a quartz
-glass substrate of 50-mm diameter and 6-mm thickness. Very low optica
l cross talk was measured among the channels (cross-talk suppression >
200:1). The design of the optical system is described, and experiment
al results are shown. A discussion on the limits of the space-bandwidt
h product is presented.
