The first examples of bridged polygermsesquioxanes were prepared by hy
drolysis and condensation of 1,6-bis(trichlorogermyl)hexane 1 and 1,6-
bis(triethoxy-germyl)hexane2. Supercritical extraction of the resultin
g gels with carbon dioxide afforded high surface area aerogels of the
organically modified germanium oxides.
