Abstract
The Oil Industry International Exploration and Production Forum (the E &P Forum) decided that it would help its members and others to have a recommended standard for wave data sampling and near-real-time process ing, which best reflected present practice and gave useful related inf ormation, in particular on the sampling variability of the parameters derived. The present paper describes the main recommendations in the d ocument produced and the philosophy behind them and discusses some asp ects of sampling variability, including the problem of how far apart t wo wave sensors have to be to give independent estimates of the wave s pectrum. The report covers both directional and non-directional record ing systems.
