Abstract
We have determined the nucleotide sequence of a 2360-basepair (bp) reg ion of the Kluyveromyces marxianus genome containing the structural ge ne for the enzyme pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC). Comparison of the dedu ced amino-acid sequence of this gene to that of the Saccharomyces cere visiae PDC genes reveals extensive homology including a motif common t o thiamin diphosphate-dependent enzymes.
