A methanol extract of Centaurea salonitana, from the Gravia region of
central Greece, contained four guaianolides, ,6betaH,7alphaH-guai-4(15
),11(13)-diene-6,12-olide (salograviolide B); 7alphaH-guai-4(15),10(14
),11(13)-triene-6,12-olide (kandavanolide); 7alphaH-guai-4(15),10(14),
11(13)-triene-6,12-olide (salograviolide C); 7alphaH-guai-4(15),10(14)
,11(13)-triene-6,12-olide (aguerin A). The structures of the compounds
were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy.
