Z. Chen et Jj. Mecholsky, TOUGHENING BY METALLIC LAMINA IN NICKEL ALUMINA COMPOSITES, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 76(5), 1993, pp. 1258-1264
Tape casting and hot-pressing were used to produce metal/alumina lamin
ate composites. The mechanical behavior of these laminates was charact
erized. The strength and toughness of the laminates were greatly impro
ved in comparison to that of monolithic alumina. Indentation strength
values of the laminates remained approximately constant for indent loa
ds between 10 and 100 N. Thus, this type of laminate appears to be a g
ood candidate for damage-tolerant composite material design.
