MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES OF SINTERED IRON .1. BASIC CONSIDERATIONS AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE

A new approach towards a correlation between the microstructure and me chanical properties of sintered iron is described, a more realistic mi crostructural description being attempted. In Part I, the significant microstructural parameters are dealt with and it is stressed that meta llography tends to give incorrect information on the microstructure it self, especially concerning pore connectivity. The most important conc epts from literature are discussed. It is shown that they frequently s tart from idealized ideas about the microstructure of sintered iron wh ich restricts the applicability of the respective models to special ca ses.
