Abstract
A detailed study is reported concerning the evolution of the electron distribution function for a laser-embedded fully ionized plasma, takin g into account the inverse bremsstrahlung and the electron-electron (e -e) collisions. Whenever possible, an effort is made to provide an ana lytic treatment of the problem, which is corroborated by numerical ana lysis as well. An approximate, analytic self-similar distribution func tion has been found for the case when e-e collisions are not negligibl e, and the heating equation has been solved numerically.
