Abstract
The phonon dispersion in the second Brillouin zone of polycrystalline ice (1h) has been measured. The results confirm the predictions of a p revious lattice-dynamics calculation [A. Criado, F. J. Bermejo, M. Gar cia-Hernandez, and J. L. Martinez, Phys. Rev. E 47, 3516 (1993)] where anomalously steep dispersion curves of an apparent acoustic origin we re found. The relevance of the present findings for explaining some ap parently anomalous features concerning the collective dynamics of liqu id water is finally discussed.
