Abstract
Kinetic interaction of deformation mechanisms is considered on the bas is of Onsager's theory. It is shown that the rate-controlling deformat ion mechanism affects the others more strongly than vice versa. The ap plicability of this approach for experimental determination of the rat e-controlling mechanism in plastic deformation is illustrated for the case of grain boundary sliding and diffusional creep.
