A. Nowotny et al., ANTIVIRAL ACTIVITY OF AN AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF THE CYANOBACTERIUM MICROCYSTIS-AERUGINOSA, PTR. Phytotherapy research, 11(2), 1997, pp. 93-96
The crude aqueous extract of a field collected strain of Microcystis a
eruginosa (Kutz) showed antiviral activity against influenza A virus.
The concentration for 50% inhibition of virus replication in MDCK cell
s was 11 mu g dry extract/mL. The virus specific protein synthesis dec
reased if the extract was present over the whole time of replication.
Furthermore protease inhibitory activity was estimated for the crude a
queous extract and subextracts. (C) 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
