Dizziness and/or vertigo of cervical origin can be released mechanical
ly f. i. by a compression of neuronal or vascular structures, but also
by disturbances of cervical afferents to the central vestibular nucle
i. The latter, called ''functional cervical vertigo'' is discussed ver
y controversial, because usually there is a profound lack of knowledge
about cervical disfunctions and their diagnostic. The neck torsion te
st is very bad defined and the cervical nystagmus, which should be pre
sent in pathologic cases is weak. Quite often if does not differ very
much from electronic noise or the instability of the patient's eyes. I
n the following paper, special diseases are discussed, which lead to m
echanical or functional dizziness.
