Abstract
A reversible mechanical control of the mobility of the interlocked rin
gs is possible in photoswitchable catenanes like 1. Furthermore, the c
rown ether guest influences the thermal isomerization of the azobenzen
e host: the catenane 1 isomerizes ten times faster than the unoccupied
host macrocycle from the (Z) to the (E) configuration.
