Abstract
A textbook example of the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect is provided by th e Jahn-Teller components of the nu6 mode of the benzene cation. They w ere resolved to the rotational level for the first time by zero kineti c energy (ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy. The picture on the right s hows the ZEKE spectrum of the 6(1) (j= +/- 1/2) band of the electronic ground state of the benzene cation via the intermediate state S1 6(1) (J' = 1, K' = 1, + l).
