The effect of a neostigmine-mediated increase in acetylcholine and its
influence on metoclopramide's effect on gastric emptying was studied
in six healthy volunteers by using the Wagner-Nelson method of calcula
ting the fraction of paracetamol absorbed. Gastric emptying was not si
gnificantly influenced by metoclopramide, but the combination of metoc
lopramide and neostigmine had an effect similar to that of neostigmine
alone. Metoclopramide did not significantly slow the ''hurrying'' eff
ect of neostigmine.
