COMPARATIVE DOUBLE-BLIND-STUDY OF THE ANTIASTHENIC AGENT DMGG AND PLACEBO FOR ASSESSING PHYSICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PERFORMANCE IN 60 ATHLETES

A double-blind, randomized, crossover, placebo-controlled trial conduc ted in 60 athletes was performed to determine the efficacy and safety of dimethylglycylgluconate (DMGG), a substance whose anti-asthenic act ivity derives from its effects on mitochondrial enzymes. In this conte xt, parameters of physical fitness and performance, and blood biochemi cal alterations were evaluated. We present the results obtained in eac h evaluation and conclude that DMGG is effective in some of the parame ters assessed, with good tolerability. Detailed analysis of the bioche mical parameters showed a favorable change in total cholesterol, trigl ycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
