Abstract
The concentration of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and RANTES was measured in c ulture supernatants of human EA.hy 926 endothelial cells incubated wit h oxidized low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Oxidized LDL induced a 3-fo ld increase in IL-8 production (p < 0.01), whereas RANTES was not dete cted, Native LDL did not stimulate IL-8 production, IL-8 production in oxidized-LDL-treated cells was mediated by reactive oxygen species, a s it was partially inhibited by catalase and completely inhibited by g lutathione peroxidase and N-acetylcysteine (p < 0.01).
