The phenomena induced by the negative ion processes in the weakly ioni
zed gas and plasmas are reviewed. The electron attachment and detachme
nt processes are briefly described. A particular attention is given to
the special features of the charged particle transport in the electro
negative gases: electron attachment cooling, absolute negative conduct
ivity of plasmas, the unstable negative ion effect on the electron tra
nsport, forming of regions of the steep plasma density variation. The
induced by negative ions new modes of waves and instabilities in plasm
as are studied. The suggestions about using the negative ion processes
in ecology and environmental science are discussed.
