A finite volume prediction for wind flow over an induced draft counter
flow cooling tower is presented. A special feature of this flow is th
e interaction of the' flow through the cooling tower with the wind flo
w over the tower. The cooling tower structure is implemented as a seri
es of internal boundaries, at which the discrete transport equations a
re modified to yield the appropriate boundary conditions for the veloc
ity and pressure. The numerical prediction indicates that the wind sig
nificantly increases the flow rate through the windward intake. Simila
r behaviour was observed on a wind tunnel model.
