Abstract
A spectrophotometric investigation of cobalt(II) chloro complexes was carried out in ethanol and propan-2-ol at 25-degrees-C and at constant ionic strength of 1 mol l-1. Three mononuclear complexes are identifi ed in both the solvents: CoCl+ CoCl2 and CoCl3- and the respective app arent overall stability constants are calculated. The calculated value s in ethanol are: log beta1=1.3, log beta2=2.8, log beta3=4.1; in prop an-2-ol: log beta1=1.7, log beta2=3.3, log beta3=4.7. Stability is hig her in the higher alcohol. Individual electronic spectra of all specie s in both the solvents are calculated and reported here for the first time.
